OSCOTT COLLEGE

Oscott College was established as St. Mary's Roman Catholic seminary and school by Bishop Milner at Oscott Hill, Old Oscott in 1795. The site is now occupied by Maryvale House.

The College was relocated to its present site adjacent to the Chester Road, in an area which was to become known as New Oscott, in 1838. The new building was designed by architect Joseph Potter of Lichfield with interiors by Augustus Welby Pugin. Pugin was for a short time engaged at the College as Professor of Architecture and Ecclesiastical Antiquities.

Teaching of lay scholars ceased in 1889.

The College houses a collection of paintings donated by the Earl of Shrewsbury. The Tudor style building has Grade II* listed building status.
